Oral Cancer Awareness Month!

April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month and we offer free oral cancer screenings for our patients during their dental exams. Oral cancer can appear in your mouth or in your throat. Men are twice more likely to get oral cancer than women. Smokers and excessive alcohol drinkers older than 50 are the most at-risk. The human papilloma virus (HPV), which is sexually transmitted, has also been associated with throat cancers at the back of the mouth. The 5-year survival rate of those diagnosed is approximately 60 percent. It’s in your best interest to keep your regular dental check-ups and mention anything suspicious to your dentist.
